LAB PARTNERS: THURSDAY, MAY 23

LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE: Lecture and workshop with Jodie Mack at Portland State University
Visiting artist Jodie Mack will deliver a lecture on the history of light projection in abstract animation and lead a workshopon different techniques of handmade experiments in light for use in contemporary practices. From early experiments by Thomas Wilifred, Louis Bertrand Castel, and Mary Hallock Greenwalt to the light projections of Mike Leonard, Joshua Light Show to live A/V experiments, this lecture will address the function of light performance in contemporary culture. Following the lecture, students will engage in a hands-on workshop with DIY light projection.

Digital Cut-Out Animated Joke Workshop: with Kenny Reed at Portland Community Media
Kenny Reed will offer a 2 hr workshop using both Photoshop and Final Cut Pro.  Using re-appropriated images from the web, learn how to create basic movements and mattes through which narrative stories and jokes can be told through the characters’ mouths.
Class will take place Portland Community Media and be FREE
Limit 10 participants

Kenny Reed is a filmmaker and animator living and working in Chicago Il.  Using both DIY computer methods combined with advanced videography skills Kenny seeks to create unique works that both provoke and awe the viewer.
